Please join us this weekend, Saturday, March 21, at 10 a.m. for our next meeting.
Amy Brighter-Sax will lead us in the use of Pilot Parallel pens to create a variety of decorative strokes and ornaments. We’ll start with basic strokes and patterns and dive into pen manipulation as well. This is a great intro for the basic strokes for broad-edge calligraphy styles.
Supplies:
- Pilot Parallel Pens (ideally 6.0mm and 3.8mm sizes, but if you have other sizes, those are fine!)
- Ink cartridges for pens
- Fountain-pen ink-friendly paper (eg. Rhodia pads, I will bring some)
I will provide worksheets!
Creating natural inks

Exhibit at the American Sign Museum
Cathy Brewer was about to sit in on a recent sign painting workshop offered at the American Sign Museum, and another will be offered in the near future. In the meantime, try to catch the current exhibit, Back to the Drawing Board. Typically headed for the trash after their usefulness has ended, sign sketches could be viewed simply as renderings for how a sign will look and function in its environment. That practical view does not do justice to the artistry and detail that signmakers put into these sketches. This exhibition will take you back to the drawing board when considering what qualifies as art through an exploration of sketches spanning 50 years and gathered from across the country. Now through June 11. https://www.americansignmuseum.org/exhibits/
The Greater Cincinnati Calligrapher’s Guild is open to anyone with an interest in the lettering arts.
