April 21: Spikey Italic

Spikey Italic

David Ogden has generously consented to lead us in making Spikey Italic letters. Please join us on Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m. for our April Guild meeting. We will be at our normal meeting place at the Evendale Cultural Arts Center, lower level art studio. See map at left.

Description: Spikey italic is a derivation of italic, pretty modern in origin but has been around since at least the 50s, maybe earlier. I find it easier to do than standard italic. I hope to get through the minuscules, then you can research the caps on the internet. This is an informal style with just a few basic rules.

Supply List:

  • Pilot parallel pen or favorite chisel edge marker or nib (at least 3mm)
  • Ink or gouache,
  • Small water bottle
  • Paper with a little cushion
  • Pencil
  • Ruler for lines

The Greater Cincinnati Calligrapher‘s Guild is open to anyone with an interest in the lettering arts.

All meetings are held at 10 a.m. on the lower level of the Evendale Cultural Arts Center, 10500 Reading Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45241, unless otherwise noted.
Please note: Entrance into the Center is only accessible by going north on Reading Rd.

There is no charge to attend.
