Greater Cincinnati Calligraphers' Guild

January 20: Flexagons with Margurie Katchen

Flexagons: Are they origami? Are they math? Are they magic?

Please join us Saturday, January 20 at 10 a.m. at the Evendale Cultural Arts Center for our first meeting of 2018.

Flexagons are structures that have hidden pages.  They may look flat, as though there were only two pages, but each has secret pages that are revealed when the structure is manipulated. The Flexagon Book Structure is an ingenious variation on the flexagon because it adds little hidden pages inside.  These can be as small as post-it notes or as large as 12″ squares of paper. I will provide several kinds of paper for folding in class.

Please bring:

  • Scissors
  • Bone folder (if you have one)
  • X-acto knife, craft knife  or scalpel with a sharp (new) blade
  • Self-healing cutting mat, if you have one; otherwise, bring a piece of cardboard on which you can cut, such as the back of a tablet
  • Glue stick
  • Marker, pen or pencil
  • Ruler

Because we could be subject to Cincinnati weather, please keep in mind if we get a significant weather event, please choose safety over risking life and limb to attend our meeting. We will cancel and reschedule at a future date.

Karen McMannon will be offering classes if you are interested in studying Italic in March and April please email Karen.

We have a busy year ahead, some things are still in the planning stages and we will need volunteers for some of the events.

The Greater Cincinnati Calligrapher‘s Guild is open to anyone with an interest in the lettering arts.

All meetings are held at 10 a.m. on the lower level of the Evendale Cultural Arts Center, 10500 Reading Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45241, unless otherwise noted.
Please note: Entrance into the Center is only accessible by going north on Reading Rd.

There is no charge to attend.
