May 20: The Wonderful World of Gelli Plate Printing

Similar to paste paper techniques, Jo and Patty will lead us through the process of Gelli Plate Printing. They will demo the process and have enough supplies to help us get started. If you have a gelli plate and brayer, bring it. If not, no worries and don’t run out and buy anything, they will have enough to share.

Here is a short list of what you might want to bring if you have it on hand.

Supplies to be used

  • Acrylic paints
  • Brayer – 3-4 inch probably best – soft rubber seems to work better
  • Paper – white cardstock, deli paper, paper bags, tags, assorted left overs, music pages, etc
  • Texture elements –  see list below
  • Various brands of gelatin plates and home made plates
  • Baby wipes or spray water bottle and paper towels
  • Extra paper, journal book or piece of fabric – clean off your brayer on these surfaces so they have a background and the paint isn’t wasted.
  • Barrier cream or gloves and apron  – optional

Texture ideas:  you will want to use items with smooth edges so nothing cuts or scratches the plates.  Otherwise many of the texture tools used for paste paper are good for this as well.

Bubble wrap
onion/apple bags at grocery
Stencils, doilies, lace
Leaves from the garden
burlap
String or lace or twine
Combs (paste paper)
Rubber stamps
Foam stamps
Texture rubbing plates
feathers
ridged cardboard
punchinella
Paper/cardboard circles
