Capitalizing on the Batarde

Batarde

Last year David Ogden presented a colorful lower case BLACK LETTER. The year before in three meetings-worth Clarence Winston presented BLACK LETTER and Karen McMannon presented ITALIC and then they both introduced the blending of those two styles to create the FRAKTUR (a fractured alphabet) aka BATARDE (a bastardized alphabet), aka Gothicized Italic, aka Pointed Gothic, ah, and yes, maybe, a little Baroque.

And now never before presented – THE BATARDE CAPITALS!

Karen McMannon will guide us through their development and bejewelment. Anticipate some beautiful handouts with elegant options.

SUPPLIES (you’ll need to bring):

  • Wide nibs – Like Speedball C-1, C-2 or any broad size nib
  • Pointed pen – If you don’t have one, a ballpoint or pencil will work to achieve fine lines
  • Ink – Your favorite (and then we’ll take a survey)
  • Lined paper – That nicely takes your ink choice

We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday at 10AM at the Evendale Cultural Arts Center.

And as always, the Greater Cincinnati Calligrapher’s Guild is open to anyone with an interest in the lettering arts.
